PkMAP criticises US for supporting Musharraf

Pervez MusharrafPeshawar, Dec 3: The Pakhtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP) has strongly criticised the US Government for what it described as its ‘double standards’ and called upon its legislators to press their government against Washington’s support for President Pervez Musharraf.

On the 34th death anniversary of a noted Pashtun leader Abdul Samad Achakzai, the PkMAP said that the US was not sincere in promoting democracy in the developing world.

It is ironic that Washington wants democracy for its people but blatantly endorses and finances dictatorial regimes the world over, it added.

The party said that people of Pakistan expect the legislators, media men, lawyers and the American civil society to press their government to give up its support for Musharraf.

"We deserve democracy as much as any other country as it’s our basic right to live under democracy," said Usman Kakar, provincial president of the party.

Kakar warned that the country could plunge into a state of civil war if elections were held in January next year without taking in account the demands of opposition parties.

The Pashtun leader expressed his disappointment with former premier Benazir Bhutto and former leader of the opposition Maulana Fazlur Rehman on their ‘soft corner’ for the upcoming elections.

The PkMAP demanded an immediate lifting of emergency rule and reinstatement of all suspended judges of the Supreme Court, the Daily times reported. (ANI)
