Washington, October 27: Disney’s ‘High School Musical 3: Senior Year’ ruled the weekend box office with a gross business of 42 million dollars, the best opening ever for a movie musical.

Second strongest debut was made by ‘Saw V’, which made 30.5 million dollars, according to Exhibitor Relations.

Distributor Lionsgate saw Saw V’s strong start as an ascendance of the franchise''s signature serial killer to Great Pumpkin status.

"Jigsaw has become as much a part of Halloween as pumpkins and trick or treating," E! online quoted Lionsgate president of theatrical films Tom Ortenberg as saying in a statement.

Third on the list was Max Payne that raked in 7.6 million dollars, followed by Beverly Hills Chihuahua with 6.9 million dollars.

Wrapping up the top five was The Secret Life of Bees with 5.9 million dollars.
