Spanish index slips 1.2 per cent

Madrid - Spain's main Ibex-35 index reacted to the slowdown on Wall Street, slipping 1.2 per cent to 10,103 points as trading opened on Wednesday.

The general index of the Madrid stock exchange fell 1.3 per cent to 1,082 points.

Nearly all the bourse heavyweights suffered losses, with the Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria (BBVA) down 1.74 per cent, the oil company Repsol down 1.42 per cent, the Santander bank losing 1.17 per cent and the energy company Iberdrola down 1.1 per cent.

The only big player to gain value was the energy company Endesa, which gained 3.15 per cent. (dpa)
