Madrid - A car bomb allegedly set by Basque separatist group ETA damaged a bank and surrounding buildings in the northern city of Vitoria, the newspaper El Pais reported online early Sunday.

The bomb went off around midnight in the business district of the Basque Country city.

An anonymous caller reported the bomb about 45 minutes before the explosion, claiming credit for the ETA. Police had blocked off the area. (dpa)
