Cricket Bookie Arrested From Pimpri
In a major development, the Crime branch police arrested one person for betting for the ongoing India- Sri Lanka one day series from Pimpri area near Pune.
The police alleged that the arrested person Sham Kukreja (32 years) was involved in booking “satta” bets. Apart from recovering a cash of Rs 6,300 the police had also recovered four mobile phones, a television set, all totalling to Rs 16,905, from him. The arrested has been booked under the Gambling Act.
One of the inspectors, Rajendra Bhamre, who arrested Kukreja said, “We received information that the suspect was involved in betting money on the fourth one-day cricket match between India and Sri Lanka. When our team raided his house, Kukreja was found taking bets on his mobile phones. We also recovered a note book, which has records of bets by 25 people totalling almost to Rs five lakh.”
According to the preliminary investigations of the police nearly 50 persons have put their money in bets for the series.
