Damascus - Hamas' Damascus-based political chief Khaled Mashaal on Thursday said the militant Palestinian movement supports Russia in its actions against Georgia.

Mashaal said Russia had the right to protect its security and interests in the face of "rude provocation."

He was addressing Palestinian officials and representatives from Syria's Baath Party at the National Library in the city. (dpa)
