Vodafone Plans Major Push Into Broadband
The UK-based telecom giant, Vodafone is planning to enter in wireless broadband industry in India. It is already providing broadband in some markets. Vodafone is also concentrating its attention toward rural base of India. The company is expecting huge potential of business in rural India. It is expected to make huge investment to achieve its goal.
The company has a strong base of 50 million customers and it is aiming for addition of 100 million customers by providing connectivity to rural India. Vodafone is talking with other companies for big deals in Asian and African countries.
Meanwhile, Arun Sarin, chief executive of Vodafone, is stepping down on July 29. He will hand over the charge to his designated successor, Vittorio Colao. Sarin is a witness of Vodafone's mega buyout of Hutch from Essar. He expressed satisfaction over the growth of company in Indian market with total strength of 50 million customers right now. The company has 20 million customers 18 months ago. Sarin stressed on long-term regulatory policies by the government in telecom sector as company has to plan its business for long term.
Vodafone would launch various products and services after the commencement of 3G technology in India. Wireless broadband and internet technology is a major area of interest for the UK based company Vodafone in the coming days.
