Hyundai’s beloved Ioniq 5 compact crossover electric SUV is set to captivate enthusiasts once again, thanks to a series of upgrades announced by the brand for the anticipated 2025 model year. Renowned for its distinctive 1980s retrofuture design and class-leading specifications, the refreshed electric SUV is all about to raise the bar. The list of subtle exterior changes includes slight updates to the grille, front and rear bumpers, a 50 mm extension to the rear spoiler, and new wheels. However, the real excitement lies in the enhancements and additions like the inclusion of a rear windshield wiper that enhances the vehicle’s adaptability to various weather conditions. The global debut showcases an EV retaining digital side mirrors, leaving some room for speculation about potential changes for the U.S. market.

The highlight of the 2025 Ioniq 5 EV is unquestionably its bigger battery. While previous options included a 58.0-kWh or a 77.4-kWh pack, the South Korean brand now introduces an impressive 84.0-kWh battery, promising a longer range on a single charge. As the 2024 Ioniq 5 already boasts a range of 220 to 303 miles, depending on the battery and drivetrain configuration, the upcoming EV with bigger battery is expected to deliver even greater range.

Inside the cabin of the battery-powered vehicle, the manufacturer hasn’t only introduced a sleek new steering wheel with "interactive pixel lights" but has also overhauled the center console with a supplementary row of buttons near the cupholders. This innovative redesigning includes a consolidated "Map" and "Navigation" button to improve user experience.

When it comes to software, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 electric SUV now supports over-the-air (OTA) updates for its major electronic systems, which marks a substantial leap from its previous limitations. This capability will enable the vehicle to receive bug fixes, new features. In short, this capability will bring the vehicle in line with modern technological standards. Additional suspension tweaks enhance stability, agility, and overall quietness, while reinforced doors and B-pillar components contribute to heightened safety.
