2024 Acura ZDX & ZDX Type S: Comprehensive look at range & pricing
Revolutionizing the US automotive landscape, Acura is poised to make a groundbreaking entry into early 2024 with the introduction of its first all-electric vehicle—the Acura ZDX, complete with the performance-enhanced Acura ZDX Type S. Interested consumers can now secure their spot in line for the brand’s inaugural EV as online reservations have already opened, requiring a refundable reservation fee of just $1,000, paving the way for anticipated customer deliveries in the Spring season next year. The unveiling of the Acura ZDX marks not only the introduction of a high-tech EV but also a shift towards an innovative omni-channel digital sales process.
Based on the General Motors’ EV-dedicated ‘Ultium’ platform, the Acura ZDX shares its lineage with noteworthy counterparts like the Cadillac Lyriq and Chevrolet Blazer EV, as well as its mainstream sibling, called the Honda Prologue. Offering two distinct trims, Acura announced that there will be two versions – the ZDX A-Spec and the performance-centric ZDX Type S. Thus, Acura seems to be poised to cater to diverse preferences within the EV space.
When it comes to range, the Acura ZDX promises an impressive range of between 288 and 325 miles on a single charge, depending on the selected version.
Beyond performance, the brand ensures a seamless charging experience, with an onboard charger rated at roughly 11 kilowatts for overnight charging and a DC fast charging capability of up to 190 kilowatts. The company estimates that the base version can replenish up to 81 miles of range in merely 10 minutes. Additionally, the automaker sweetens the deal by offering up to $750 charging credit for EVgo chargers and a 60-kWh introductory charging credit from Electrify America.
Pricing details remain under wraps, but some hints provide a glimpse into the affordability of the ZDX lineup. The A-Spec variants, which will be made available with both rear-wheel (RWD) and all-wheel drive (AWD) powertrains, are expected to commence in the enticing range of $60,000. The high-performance ZDX Type S, featuring a strong 500-hp dual-motor all-wheel drive (AWD) powertrain, will likely set the buyer back by around $70,000.
Moreover, the exact effective prices for the aforementioned trims remains uncertain due to doubts over availability of the U.S. government’s federal tax credit. However, Acura has assured that the ZDX, produced locally in North America with locally sourced battery packs and other components, is poised to qualify for the full federal tax credit of $7,500.
