American automobile giant General Motors (GM) has reportedly extended the shelf lives of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV hatchback and EUV crossover as the automaker has decided to continue to build the two EVs for an additional month. The production of the 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV hatchback and EUV crossover was scheduled to end on 7th of November, but the production of both subcompact EVs will now come to an end in December this year. In other words, production of both EVs have been extended by around a month.

According to GM Authority, a news website that covers everything about the General Motors and its products, reported that production of the two EVs at the company’s Michigan-based Orion Assembly Plant has been extended by many weeks. Citing anonymous source, the website also claimed that the exact date for the production to end has yet to be announced by the automaker.

Series production of the 2023 Bolt EV as well as Bolt EUV was started in July last year, after the massive recall of the vehicles. The recall of the two EVs was caused by a battery-related issue that resulted into numerous fires. Thus, the 2023 model year of both battery-powered vehicles have a production run of seventeen months.

In 2022, GM announced a production target of 70,000 units for the two models in the 2023 calendar year. As of the second quarter (Q2) of this year, the company recorded sales of 33,659 units. It suggests that the goal of 70,000 units is attainable.

While sales of both Chevrolet Bolt EV and EUV have increased significantly over the past year, the aforementioned massive recall of the vehicles and pause in production played a big part in the company’s decision.

Both EVs are built on the American automobile giant’s BEV2 platform – the predecessor of the Ultium-powered BEV3 architecture that underpins the company’s latest products like the Chevrolet Equinox EV, Cadillac Lyriq, Cadillac Celestiq, and Blazer EV.

It is also worth-mentioning here that the affordable prices of the two EVs are the biggest factor behind their popularity. In fact, the Bolt EV and Bolt EUV are the most affordable EVs on sale in the U.S. market. The 2023 Chevrolet Bolt EV comes with a starting price tag of $27,495, while the 2023 Bolt EUV is available with a starting price tag of $28,795, including $995 shipping charges.
