The Volvo EX30, an all-electric crossover SUV designed & developed by Sweden-headquartered Volvo Car Corporation, is going to be the brand’s smallest SUV as well as the cheapest electric vehicle (EV) to date.

Volvo has developed the EX30 as a more city-friendly and inexpensive alternative to the existing all-electric XC40 Recharge and C40 Recharge SUVs. The Volvo EX30 is also the Swedish brand’s first premium subcompact e-SUV and 4th fully-electric model. Additionally, the new e-SUV (in Twin Motor Performance guise) is going to be the brand’s quickest production EV to date, with a capability to sprint from 0 to 60 miles per hour (mph) in just 3.4 seconds. In the U.S., it is available in in two powertrain options: Single Motor Extended Range and Twin Motor Performance.

Revealed recently in Milan, Italy, the Volvo EX30 e-SUV adopts the same naming scheme as its larger sibling – the Volvo EX90. The prefix “EX” indicates that this vehicle is only available as an all-electric model.

When it comes to size, the EX30 e-SUV is 166.6 inches (4,233 mm) in length, 72.3 inches (1,837 mm) in width, and 61.2 inches (1,555 mm) in height. Its wheelbase measures 104.3 inches (2,650 mm). According to the manufacturer’s claims, the chassis of the new e-SUV has been tuned in such a way that it makes the most of the EV’s compact dimensions. It has low centre of gravity and relatively low & evenly distributed weight.

It is worth-noting here that Volvo EX30 e-SUV isn’t a copy of the Volvo EX90. The profile of the new fully-electric vehicle has an ascending waistline, which comes to an end with a thick C-pillar that enables a "floating roof" optical illusion. Its bonnet dives more intensely on the way to the nose. Moreover, its muscular wheel arches are more visible than the wheel arches on the Volvo EX90.

The interior of the EX30 features a minimalist Scandinavian design blended with front-line technology. At the centre of the dashboard, there is a massive 12.3-inch single-screen infotainment system, while a soundbar covers the entire upper portion of the dashboard under the windshield.

In the U.S., where the Volvo EV3 is available for pre-order now, the company is offering it with a pocket-friendly price tag of just $34,950 (excluding destination charges. The new EV can be pre-ordered for just $500, which is totally refundable. First deliveries of the e-SUV are scheduled to commence sometime in Summer 2024. Pre-order holders will be able to configure their cars in or around the final quarter of current year.
