Sales of the Jaguar I-Pace – a battery-electric crossover SUV produced by luxury automobile brand Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) – decreased further last year, thanks partially to poor sales in the fourth quarter (Q4) of 2022.

An analysis of newly released stats suggests that the Jaguar I-Pace e-SUV is the only vehicle in the brand’s EV lineup that continues to struggle. During the Q4 period (October through December quarter), only 1,146 units of the I-Pace could be sold by the company. The figure represents a decline of 55 per cent year-over-year.

The aforementioned Q4 sales of the I-Pace mark its lowest result since its launch in Q3 of 2018, when it had sold 1,073 units. At the same time, the all-electric SUV accounted for around 8 per cent of the company’s total sales volume.

Overall, Jaguar sold 14,540 cars globally during the final quarter of last year, which is nearly 1 per cent greater than the figure recorded in the corresponding quarter of the preceding year. It was the brand’s first positive result in the last many quarters. Nonetheless, sales in the whole of 2022 slipped by more than 28 per cent to 61,661 units.

The year of 2022 was, in fact, very challenging for the entire JLR group, which is a part of Indian automobile giant Tata Motors. The Land Rover brand also suffered a loss of nearly one-fifth of its sales year-over-year.

Back to the Jaguar I-Pace, the e-SUV’s sales in the whole of 2022 amounted to 7,307 units, down 27 per cent year-over-year. For reference, Jaguar sold 9,970 and 16,457 units of the e-SUV in 2021 and 2020, respectively. In 2019, sales of the vehicle were even higher at 17,355.

Considering the I-Pace’s sales in the past few years, we can easily see that the EV is struggling to find buyers. Cumulatively, Jaguar sold almost 58,000 units of the I-Pace globally.

Some automobile experts have suggested that Jaguar will not be able to boost sales of the I-Pace if the 2024 model year retains its existing powertrain. In simple words, the e-SUV could suffer a further decline in sales unless the manufacturer improves its powertrain, especially considering how aggressive the e-SUV segment is now.

The 2023 Jaguar I-Pace comes equipped with a dual-motor AWD powertrain with total system output of 294kW of hp and 696Nm of torque, which offers 0-100km/h acceleration in just 4.8 seconds. Its 90-kWh battery promises a range of 446 kilometers on the WLTP test cycle.
