Man shoots Father, Daughter to Death, Mother and Two Children in Critical Condition
Last night, Donna Davis was awakened by the sound of banging on her doors. She was horrified by what she saw after opening the door: a woman and two children, a boy and a girl, were covered in blood after being shot in their home across the road.
There was blood everywhere and Donna initially thought the injuries were caused by a car accident. She said the little boy was terrified and was half under the porch. He appeared to hide himself from someone. He was crying for help and according to Davis' mother-in-law, Linda Davis, the boy said that half of his ear was gone.
According to the police, the house was owned by the woman, Victoria Sims, and her husband, Jermaine Sims. A man living in the house shot both the husband and the wife along with their three children. Jermaine Sims, 31, and a 9-year-old daughter succumbed to the fatal gunshot injuries. Victoria Sims, 29, and 6-year-old son and 14-year-old daughter somehow survived but are currently struggling for life in hospital and doctors have said that their condition is very critical.
Victoria and the two other children somehow managed to cross a usually busy two-lane highway to get help, said Donna Davis.
Capt. Clint Earls said Jimmy Lyons, 32, allegedly shot the family and he is facing two counts of murder and three of aggravated assault. "The only thing we are waiting on is getting some of the victims in well-enough health to where they can shed some light on what caused the incident to erupt", said Earls.
The shooting incident occurred in an area about a mile south of downtown Brookhaven. Dona Davis called the police at about 12:20 am on Friday after she found Victoria Sims and two children covered in blood outside her house.
