Israel's Olmert ready for withdrawal from Golan
Damascus - Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert expressed his country's readiness for a full withdrawal from Syria's Golan Heights in return for peace with the Arab country, a private television channel quoted Syrian sources as saying Tuesday.
Olmert conveyed the message to Turkey's Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, Syrian sources told the Damascus-based al-Duniya television.
Erdogan, who is expected to visit Damascus on Saturday, is seeking to broker a peace deal between Syria and Israel.
Syria's Golan Heights has been under Israeli occupation since the 1967 war.
The television report has not been confirmed by Syria's state- owned media. The country's television channels and newspapers, whether private or state-owned, are heavily censored. (dpa)
