DataWind to clear all backlog of new Aakash within 6 weeksDataWind, the maker of budget tablet computer Aakash, is optimistic that it will be able to clear all backlog of pre-paid orders for the commercial version of its new tablet computer within next six weeks.

According to DataWind Chief Executive Suneet Singh Tuli, the company has received nearly 40 lakh orders for its new tablet called Ubislate.

At present, DataWind is producing and shipping nearly 2,500-3,000 units of the tablet computer per day, and aims to ramp up production to nearly 10,000 units per day.

Speaking on the topic, Tuli said, "Right now we are doing 2,500-3,000(units) a day. We are targeting that, by end of the year, around 10,000 (units) on a daily basis. Then we will keep enhancing expanding."

New models of Aakash come with two sorts of touch-screens, viz. resistive touch-screen and capacitative touch-screen. Tablets with capacitative screens respond better to touch than tablets with resistive screens.

Tuli also announced that his company was going to start production of SIM-based tablet computers within next two weeks.

While the first version of Akash featured 366 Mhz processor, 256MB of RAM and 2GB of flash memory, the new version of Ubislate features 1Ghz processor, 512MB of RAM and 4GB of flash memory.

DataWind is giving the option to customers to shift from the older version of the tablet to the latest by paying Rs 500 additional.
