Twitter adding photo filters to its mobile apps

Twitter adding photo filters to its mobile appsAccording to a Friday report from The New York Times (NYT), popular microblogging service Twitter is apparently planning to add its own photo filter to its mobile apps; thereby replicating photo-sharing network Instagram which has been acquired by Facebook.

As per the NYT report, citing the information shared by unidentified Twitter employees, Twitter has plans underway to bring on new built-in photo filters to its mobile apps, thus giving the users the ability to sidestep Instagram completely.

The NYT sources revealed on the condition of anonymity that Twitter will "introduce filters for photos that will allow people to share altered images on Twitter;" and that, as a result of the move, mobile users of the Twitter site will have no need to access Instagram for photos.

Going by the NYT sources, the photo-filters-related changes will make their way to Twitter's mobile apps "in the coming months." The changes will give the Twitter users the advantage of applying effects to photos directly, sans the need of Instagram.

Moreover, the sources also revealed that Twitter is also working on further enhancing its mobile apps with the addition of a number of other features, including the capability of editing as well as uploading videos directly. Such a change will be yet another significant move by Twitter because, as of now, the users of the site have to go through video-sharing websites, like YouTube and Vimeo, for editing and uploading their videos.
