Short drive to save the planet
Sydney - A senior Australian politician was mocked Wednesday for being driven 400 metres in a two-car convoy to sign an agreement aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Victoria state Premier John Brumby climbed in the back of his eight-cylinder limousine to travel from Parliament House to sign the agreement with the Clinton Climate Initiative (CCI).
Melbourne is one of 40 cities in the CCI project that former US President Bill Clinton set up in 2006.
"Normally I'd walk. I usually walk to most meetings, but on this occasion I needed to be briefed on a couple of issues and I needed to make a phone call, and it was just the way it worked out," Brumby said. (dpa)
