India to have 121 million internet users by DecemberIndia, the second most populous country in the country, is set to have more than 121 million internet users by December 2011, according to a study by Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) and IMRB.

The number of internet users crossed the mark of 100-million mark in September. The figure is 13 per cent increase over the last year, when the number of internet users stood at 87 million. The number of claimed interne users now stands at 112 million.

The study shows that as the consumers have the option of several affordable internet enabled devices in the country the number of inter users are climbing rapidly in the country.

"A 100 million internet users is considered a critical landmark for the country. With this, internet use in India is expected to enter a critical period of growth, with the possibility of the country becoming the largest internet user in the world in this decade," said IAMAI President Subho Ray.

The crossing of the 100 million mark is an achievement for the government, which is trying to improve the internet penetration in the country.
