Nokia might not launch N9 in the UK

nokiaLeading handset maker, Nokia might not offer its N9 smartphone in the UK, when the Meego powered device is launched later in the year.

According to a new report, the UK is not among the list of countries that Nokia has asked its users to check for availability. Surprisingly, Italy, Spain, Germany and France are also not mentioned in the list.

“The N9 will begin shipping in 2011. We will share more information about the specific markets and the pricing closer to product availability,” said Nokia's communications manager, Mark Hindle.

Nokia revealed its button-free smartphone, N9 last month and company Chief Executive Stephen Elop confirmed that the device will be available in the market later this year. At the time of its release, Elop said the new N9 "will be launched later this year," however did not announce specific launch date. N9 will be company’s first and only device based on Linux-based MeeGo platform.

The device has a large 3.9-inch AMOLED display and is available in black, cyan and magenta. It also has 8-megapixel Carl Zeiss camera with HD video capture, built-in near field communication (NFC) chip, drive and walk navigation and it also supports 16:9 widescreen video playback and Dolby decoding.

Elop has also confirmed that the company will not release more Meego powered smartphones in the market.
