Telecom operators discuss spectrum issues with the Telecom Minister
On Tuesday, various telecom operators had a meeting with the union Communications Minister Kapil Sibal. Mr. Sibal had met different telecom operators and had a discussion over various issues related to 2G spectrum.
After the meeting, the telecom minister has also addressed the media and told that several issues were discussed. Around 15 points were discussed about the second generation spectrum today.
Mr. Sibal has also said that the government is looking forward to take the stakeholders on board as well. He had called all the members to provide their inputs over the issue. As per the minister, they all gave their points of view on the recommendations that the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended on the 2G spectrum.
In the month of February, the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) had recommended a six-fold hike in the fee charged for scarce spectrum. But later the telecom companies have shown their disappointment over the fee hike and asked the telecom minister to resolve the issue.
Now, after the meeting, it is expected that the airwaves, on mobile phone service firms may settle with the price to be charged for the spectrum.
