Moon water may have come from comets, suggests study
A new study has suggested that water that was found on moon may have come from comet. These comets must have pelted the lunar surface after it was formed.
These moon water samples were collected from lunar rock samples during NASA's Apollo missions. This water is different from the one that is found on Earth and has many properties that show that these are from three known comets.
Study leader James Greenwood who is also a professor in the department of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Wesleyan University in Middletown, Conn has said that the three comets delivered majority of water that is found on moon. He further added that there are also results that show that these are the same comets which have delivered water on earth as well.
And now that the source of water has been found it is going to help in answering many of the great questions that have been associated with moon water and also earth water. One of the major one being the one related to origin of oceans on earth.
James said that they have studied the physical and chemical properties of these waters.
