Telecom policy overhaul soon: Sibal
After a storm in the telecom sector due to the 2G scam, questions have been raised on the flaws of the telecom policy. Kapil Sibal took over from the alleged former minister A. Raja as the communications and IT minister.
He has had the tough days in office since then, pondering over ways to improve the policy. He recently promised the nation to get rid of the ten year old policy and make way for some reforms.
He promised transparent spectrum allocation mechanism package for local equipment manufacturing and mergers and acquisitions that will help the telecom sector come over the scams and install a system for the future growth.
In the ever changing sector of telecom, an 11 year old policy hardly makes sense. A new telecom policy will soon be formulated which will also encourage for steps to migrate from the current Internet Protocol version, IPv4 to IPv6.
Kapil Sibal is planning to hold a meeting with the key stakeholders in the sector where a lot of viewpoints will be discussed for a better system of plan rollouts and more transparent policy.
