Sensex Hits 20K Mark; Nifty At 6016
On the back of huge funds from foreign institutional investors (FII), the broad-based Nifty hit 6K mark and the 30-share index crossed 20K level today for the first time since Jan, 2008.
At 09:12 a. m., the 30BSE Sensex gained 132 points to trade at 20,038 and the Nifty stood at 6016 after gaining 36 points as against its last closure.
During the existing month (Sep 2010), FIIs remained net buyers to the tune of over Rs 15,000 crore.
But, Asian bourses remained weak in trade and Shanghai, Hang Seng and Taiwan were flat.
On the first day of the week, the Sensex grew by 311.35 points to end the day positively at 19,906.10.
On the other hand, the Nifty gained 95.50 points to mark its closure at 5,980.45.
The top movers in the Sensex pack included RCom, ITC, Hero Honda Motors Ltd, HUL, HDFC and DLF.
The major losers during the day were Sterlite Ind (India), NTPC, TCS, BHEL and Tata Power Company.
The BSE Midcap and smallcap indices climbed 0.66% and 0.74% respectively.
