Aksh Optifibre, MTNL jointly unveil “IPTV & Video calling service” in Mumbai

Aksh Optifibre Ltd, in collaboration with state run MTNL, has unveiled its IPTV service, A-Tel, and video phone calling service, V Spyk, for Mumbai.

Aksh-Tel, Aksh Optifibre's interactive personalized television delivers TV programming, which comes with a high quality reception and several add on features like time-shift television, video on demand etc.

V Spyk launched by Aksh is a real time video-phone calling service between two users, enabling real time communication at a more personalised level. The MTNL broadband  subscribers can now make international calls to nearly 100 countries at Re 1 per minute with the help of this application.

A-Tel is available to subscribers for Rs 1,000, which is inclusive of a reimbursable security deposit and six months of free subscription.

While, a combo deal of A-Tel and V Spyk (VoIP) would come at a price of Rs 1,460, in which the subscribers would get an A-Tel set-up box and one year’s free subscription with access to 100 channels at no additional cost. It also gives lifetime free rental for Spyk Internet telephony’s analogue telephone adaptor (ATA).

The IPTV services on MTNL network will be commercially launched in Mumbai on 1 April, 2008 with a bouquet of 100 channels. Both the services are easily available to all MTNL broadband subscribers.

Aksh Optifibre plans to invest $25 million (Rs 1 billion) over the next 18 months towards its IPTV and VOIP projects.

The stock of the company closed on Wednesday at Rs 40.70 on NSE, down by 3% compared with previous close of Rs 41.90. It touched an intraday high of Rs 44 and low of Rs 40.
