Sensex Choppy; Bharti, ICICI Bank, RCom SlipIndian equities remained weak for the second day today. The 30-share index Sensex lost all its gains and fell into the negative zone amid volatility.

The country's IIP grew by 13.5% in March. In Feb 2010, IIP growth was at 15.10% as against 16.70% in January this year.

Market analysts projected a bit faster growth of 15% in March.

The poor IIP numbers dragged index lower.

The top losers of the day were Teck and metal stocks. The sectors, which saw some buying activity, comprise FMCG and healthcare.

At 11.56 a. m., the Sensex stood at 17,128.92, down 12.61 points, while the Nifty lost 20.70 points to trade at 5,115.45.

Today, the BSE Sensex belled the day on a flat note at 17,141.53 after surging 20.52 points from its previous close.

The top losers in the list were Bharti Airtel, Mah & Mah, ICICI Bank, BHEL, RCom, JP Asso, Hindalco and Sterlite Ind.

The gainers list included HUL, ITC, Hero Honda, Cipla and L&T.

The BSE Midcap index was trading 0.76%. down at 6875.82 and the BSE Smallcap index was down by 39.12 points.

Among the sectoral indices, Metal declined 1.21%, TECk slipped 1.04%, Auto slashed 0.79%, whereas the FMCG index remained up by 22.21 points. (With Inputs from Agencies)
