A good time for the new entrants in small-car segment

NANOWhile companies like Maruti Suzuki and Hyundai Motors India have ruled the small car segment for years now, it is the new entrants like Chevrolet Beat, Volkswagen Polo and Ford Figo etc. that are having a real good time in the Indian market.

According to the latest figures reported by the auto majors in the Indian market, General Motors India has registered a 120 per cent rise in sales during the month of April, 2010.

The company sold 10,601 units in April, 2010 as against 4,823 units sold in April, 2009 out of which almost 70% of total volumes were contributed by Bet and Spark, its two compact offerings in the Indian market. Similarly, Ford India has been able to file humungous growth in the unit sales for the past two months.

Volkswagen on the other end has thousands of units of Volkswagen Polo as the backlogs, but as the company is gradually increasing the production of the hatchback at the Chakan plant, experts believe that it will solve its problem in the coming times. But for now all the new entrants are certainly having a blast at the Indian small car market.
