DC moves beyond cars

Dilip-ChhabriaDilip Chhabria, the veteran Indian car designer, has recently moved beyond designing of cars, Buses and Helicopters and is looking at areas like furniture, refrigerators and televisions under which the designer is enduring its global ambitions, wants to go mass-market in India.

The road to his new journey started when a Hyderabad based real estate developer contacted his company for designing home theatres for the Rs 15-crore villas he is building in the city. Dilip immediately placed 20 people on the job to explore more opportunities in the space.

Experts believe that with the company moving into new areas it has opened new revenue streams for the designer and thus will help in hedging the risks.

Notably, Dilip had interest in designing of cars since his childhood and his passion landed him into Automotive Art School at Pasadena in the US and after a short stint at GM, he moved on and designed a better Armada for M&M. Moreover, it was executives at M&M that pushed him to go and open a car design studio on his own.
