Viacom or YouTube; winner gets a billion dollar

Viacom or YouTube; winner gets a billion dollarThe copyright battle between Viacom and Google intensifies as it has now become one of the biggest lawsuits ever filed. It’s now pegged at $1 billion.

The battle raised by Viacom against Google’s YouTube blamed Google to possess videos which belonged to Viacom. Viacom held Google responsible for illegally taking the videos and posting it on its subsidiary website- YouTube.

YouTube founder Chad Hurley believes that 80 percent of user traffic is dependent on pirated videos and we’re going to have a tough time defending the fact that we are not liable for the copyrighted material on the site.

Meanwhile, Viacom claimed that Google has illegitimately taken the videos and need to pay back for the same.

However, this issue has brought the Digital Millenium Copyright Act to its supreme. Now its on the court to decide whether Google is a saint or a sinner.
