The Supreme Court of India has recently rejected the bail application of Ramalinga Raju, the accused in the multi-billion dollar scam of Satyam Computer Services. While the chief justice cited the fact that if the crime is serious, the accused needs to stay in the jail, Raju appealed for bail citing his health reasons as he said he's suffering from ailments like cardiac problem and hepatitis C.

Ramalinga Raju also mentioned the fact that the CBI has already prepared a third charge sheet against him and after that there are no chances that an accused can tamper the evidence. Raju's lawyer took cue from the fact that many senior auditors have been granted bail and so should be the case with Raju on the basis of Principle of Parity.

However, the court said that Raju cannot be granted bail until and unless the main witnesses in the case are examined. The court further added that the accused can ask for bail at a later stage when the investigation with the main witness is complete.

Notably, the court needs to examine around 670 witnesses and study around 1.60 lakh documents in this case.
