Alcohol for abstaining weight gain- a myth unresolvedContrary to the normal belief that alcohol helps in catching weight, it has been found that alcohol actually helps in confinement of weight gain.

The study involving Archives of Internal Medicine stated that women who consume temperate amounts of alcohol don't gain much weight compared to those who desist. However, this doesn't indicate drinking should be inculcated as a new diet. Facts show that a 5-ounce glass of wine holds 125 calories, and a regular 12-ounce beer has about 150 calories approximately.

Researchers at Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston inspected the facts of 19,220 women with respect to healthy weight, provided health and lifestyle information over an average of 13 years.

It was found that women who drank 15 to 30 grams a day, the equivalent of a drink or two -were 30% less likely to be overweight or obese.

Nevertheless, it still remains unclear why women tend to burn more calories than what men do. Other links state that a low BMI, low calorie diet etc could be the reasons for the same.
