Germany confirm test against Argentina

Germany confirm test against Argentina Hamburg  - Germany confirmed Friday a friendly international against Argentina in March, the last test for coach Joachim Loew before he names his squad for next year's World Cup.

The two World Cup qualifiers will meet in Munich's Allianz Arena on March 3, the German football federation (DFB) said.

"The match will be a real test for our team before the nomination of the squad for the World Cup in South Africa," Loew said.

The last time Germany played Argentina was in the quarter-finals of the 2006 World Cup, when the hosts won a penalty shoot-out in Berlin.

Three-time World Cup winners Germany have a negative record against twice winners Argentina, with five wins, five draws and seven defeats.

"Although they had a few problems in the World Cup qualifiers in South America they are for me one of the strongest sides in the world," Loew said.

Germany are planning three further friendlies shortly before the start of the June 11-July 11 tournament, with Malta possibly one of the opponents in Aachen.

Two friendly internationals are also scheduled next month, against Chile on November 14 in Cologne and Ivory Coast four days later in Gelsenkirchen.

Ivory Coast is a replacement for Egypt, who might be involved in a play-off on November 18 depending on the outcome of their World Cup qualifier against Algeria on November 14. (dpa)
