Robben's hopes of speedy return dashed
Munich - Arjen Robben broke off training Friday to end his hopes of a comeback for Bayern Munich Saturday just two weeks after undergoing arthroscopic knee surgery.
The Dutch winger experienced a slight problem on the operated knee and now won't be considered for the Bundesliga match at Freiburg, the club said.
Bayern coach Louis van Gaal had said Thursday Robben had returned from surgery quickly and would at least be on the substitutes' bench.
Captain Mark van Bommel is meanwhile set to return after a long absence after recovering from a broken toe, while striker Luca Toni is also in contention to start for the first time this season.(dpa)
