Train derails in southern Thailand, killing four Bangkok  - A passenger train derailed Monday in southern Thailand, killing at least four people and injuring 67 others, railway officials said.

The accident occurred at 4:42 am at Khao Tao district in Prachuab Khiri Khan province, about 130 kilometres south-west of Bangkok, State Railways of Thailand (SRT) spokeswoman Montakarn Sivirat said.

"We're still waiting for more details about the accident but we know the derailment happened during a heavy rain storm," Montakarn said.

It was not immediately known if foreigners were among the dead or injured.

Twelve of the train's 14 compartments fell off the tracks in the rainstorm. The train was travelling from Trang province, a popular tourist destination on the Andaman Sea coast, to Bangkok. (dpa)
