Varanasi fire kills one, injures two
Varanasi, Apr 13: One person was killed and two injured here on Monday after a fire broke out in a lane full of shops.
A transformer in the lane caught fire and gradually the flames spread to the entire area engulfing three saree shops.
Residents complained that the fire went out of control because of the carelessness of the administration.
"The fire has caused a loss of millions of rupees. Two to three people are burnt. The condition of one person is critical. I have called the Superintendent of Police four times from my cell. But he is still not here," said Rakesh Jain, a trader, Kashi Trade Representative Body.
The top police and administrative officers reached the spot to monitor the rescue operation.
As the market is situated in congested lanes, fire tenders were unable to reach inside and the fire officers tried to extinguish the blaze from nearby roof tops.
Those injured were rushed to the hospital. (ANI)
