Landertinger clinches gold in Austrian one-two at biathlon worlds
Pyeongchang, South Korea - Austria claimed a one-two at the biathlon world championships when Dominik Landertinger stormed to victory followed by compatriot Christoph Sumann in the men's 15-kilometre mass start race in Pyeongchang.
Landertinger clocked 38 minutes 32.5 seconds after three shooting errors to beat Sumann, who also had three errors, by 8.9 seconds.
It was the first individual gold for Austria at a world championships since Oslo 2000.
"I am speechless - I can't believe it," Landertinger said. "This is a dream come true for me."
Russia's Ivan Tcherezov was third, 13.9 seconds behind Landertinger, with record biathlon champion Ole Einar Bjoerndalen fourth, 21.1 seconds behind the winner as he sought to add to his three gold medals in Pyeongchang.
A 4 x 6 km women's relay was scheduled for later. (dpa)
