Audi India posts three-fold increase in 2008
German luxury carmaker, Audi India reported three-fold increase in its luxury cars sales in 2008, at a time when entire automobile sector is facing the heat of global slowdown. Audi sold 1,050 units in the country in the year 2008 as compared to 349 units during the previous year.
The company managed to sell 76 units in December as compared to 31 units in the year-ago period posting 145 per cent increase in sales. The Managing Director of Audi India, Benoit Tiers said, "The year 2008 has been an exciting time for Audi India as we not only have achieved, but exceeded our projected targets despite the overall slowdown in the automobile market."
The newly launched luxury sedan A4 and the sports car R8 also did good business. Encouraged with good sales results in last year, the luxury car maker opened a new showroom in Mumbai in a bid to expand its presence in India. A company executive said, "Audi has exceeded expectations and will continue growing in India."
Audi has already 12 dealerships at Delhi, Gurgaon, Chandigarh, Mumbai, Pune, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Ludhiana, Chennai, Kochi and Kolkata with model range comprising the new Audi A4, the Audi A6, the Audi A8, the Audi Q7, the Audi TT and Audi R8.
