Rummenigge: Ribery not for sale but Podolski hopefully soon

Bayern Munich LogoMunich - Franck Ribery is not for sale but a move involving Lukas Podolski will hopefully be finalized within the next weeks, according to the chairman of Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.

Rummenigge told Friday's edition of the Bild daily that Munich will not release their French star Ribery from his contract until 2011 and instead want to keep him even longer.

"I can promise that 100 per cent to all Bayern fans and all friends of attractive football. No offer, no sum will stop us," Rummenigge said.

While Ribery has developed into the biggest star in the Bundesliga, Podolski is now only a frustrated substitute who wants to leave before his deal expires in 2010.

His former club Cologne want him back and Rummenigge hopes for an improved offer for a summer move in the current winter break.

"It would be very helpful for Lukas if Cologne make an acceptable offer. Then we would finalize the deal for July 1 in early January.

Lukas would be free in his mind and happy again and would bid farewell to Munich in a decent way," said Rummenigge.

Bayern reportedly want at least 10 million euros (14.4 million dollars) for the Germany forward, but Cologne have reportedly offered only little more than 7 million euros.

Rummenigge warned Cologne that they will not get Podolski back on their conditions and that he could move elsewhere instead. Werder Bremen are reportedly interested and there is also speculation of a move to SV Hamburg as part of Ivica Olic's possible move from the northern German club to Munich. (dpa)
