No nation can fight cybercrime in isolation: Sibal

No nation can fight cybercrime in isolation: SibalGlobal cooperation is necessary to ensure cyber security as no nation can fight cyber crime in isolation, Communications & IT Minister Kapil Sibal said.

Sibal, who is in Baku, Ajerbaijan, to attend a High Level Ministerial Meeting at the Internet Governance Forum, stressed that cooperation is must among key players, industry, international bodies and governments to secure cyberspace.

Speaking on the topic, he said, "No nation can fight cybercrime or secure its cyberspace in isolation. Increased and focused cooperation among key players, governments, industry and international bodies, is essential to create a secure cyberspace."

Sibal proposed that all countries should sign agreements on international technological standards and should also exchange security related information with one another to arrest increasing cyber crimes.

He pointed out that lack of global interoperability and critical information made it hard for governments to fight back cyber crimes. He added that timely information about a cyber attack would play a highly critical role in helping governments save crucial infrastructure services like telecom, e-Governance, power and finance.

The High Level Ministerial Meeting at the Internet Governance Forum was also attended by global leaders including UNDESA under secretary general Wu Hongbo, ITU Secretary-General Hamadoun Toure, ICANN CEO Fadi Chehad and UNESCO Assistant Director-General Janis Karklins.
