No evidence on unlawful travel under Olympic visa scam, Thomson
Adam Thomson, the British High Commissioner to Pakistan has said that there is no evidence of anyone travelling to the UK through the Olympic visa scandal.
He said that all the participants from the country had applied for their visas several months in advance, eliminating the chances of unlawful travel to the UK. He pointed out that he discussed the issue of irregular or illegal migration to UK with Pakistan's Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar during a recent meeting.
"Their finger prints and relevant documents were checked properly. There left no much chance to proceed to UK on fake documents. Last year we found 4,000 fake travelling documents and passports. However, it is tiny infraction against the 150,000 visa applications, which were received by us," he said.
Figures showed that Pakistanis form the largest group of asylum seekers in UK. Thomson said that the UK and Pakistani governments are working together to address the issue. He pointed out that visa scams and fake documents happen in all the countries around the world and admitted that there are flaws in passport issuance and visa control of the country and needs improvement.
