Nissan Motors plans to launch nine new models in India by 2012
Nissan Motors India plans to launch nine car models in India by 2012 out of which five will be made in India while the remaining will be imported from Japan. The company is planning to expand it market presence in the Indian auto market significantly with the new models.
Managing director and CEO Nissan Motors India, Mr. Kiminobu Tokuyama said that the company is ready with three of the four cars that will be imported using the CBU rote. These include Teana sedan, the X Trail spoprts utility vehicle and the sports car 370Z.
The five cars which will be made in India will be rolled out from the company's Chennai plant in May after which a sedan version will be released next year and the other three cars would be based on V, Nissan's new global compact car platform.
This platform is shared by Renault, the French car maker who has a stake in the company. Nissan has partnered with Bajaj and Renault in the Indian venture.
The first car to be rolled out in May from the Chennai plant with an expected annual capacity of 2 lakh units will have 85% local content. The production for exports will begin in August this year.
