NHRC’s one month long winter internship programme concludes
New Delhi, Jan. 15 : The one month long winter internship programme organized by the National Human Rights Commission concluded today in New Delhi.
This was the ninth batch of interns. Fifty three post graduate level students of different subject disciplines from fourteen States and Union Territories attended this programme which started on December 17, 2008.
They included thirty two girls and twenty one boys.
The aim of the internship programme has been to sensitize young students about the protection and promotion of human rights. During the eighty eight sessions the interns were exposed to various legal social and economic aspects of the human rights by the eminent guest faculties and in-house faculty members.
Addressing the valedictory session Member, NHRC, Mr. Justice G. P. Mathur said, the interns should make the best use of the exposure they have got on the issue of human rights and sensitize other in the society.
In the valedictory address Member, NHRC, Mr. P. C. Sharma expressed happiness that this batch of interns represented different parts of the country.
He said interns are ambassadors of the Commission who can carry the message forward that having a human rights approach in are lives is the need of the hour.
Sharma also said the interns should try to reach out people at grass root level in their Panchayat and local areas to spread the awareness about the human rights.
The Secretary General, NHRC, A. K. Jain, congratulated the young students for showing keen interest in the internship programme and also asked them to carry forward the message of protection and promotion of human rights. (ANI)
