Musharraf to start his poll campaign from Balochistan

Islamabad, Sep 23 : President Pervez Musharraf has decided to launch his presidential election campaign from Balochistan on Monday.

Sources said that Musharraf would start the campaign in Balochistan, where he would meet with the members of the national and provincial assemblies to seek their votes for his election.

At a meeting in Islamabad with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz on Saturday, PML-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain said nomination papers for Musharraf’s re-election would be submitted on September 27.

He said the PML-Q and its coalition parties were committed to electing Musharraf from the present assemblies.

The re-election of Musharraf would ensure peace, progress and stability in Pakistan, the Daily Times quoted Shujaat, as saying.

Aziz said the threats of resignations from the assemblies by some opposition parties reflected their hopelessness, and asked them to avoid politics of confrontation, because it would not serve the cause of democracy.

"Confrontational politics was disliked by the people in the past and such elements will be rejected in the upcoming general elections," he said.

Aziz also said that the re-election of Musharraf would be good for the country as it would ensure continuity and consistency of policies that are essential for progress and prosperity.

Aziz said the judiciary was an important pillar of the state and was playing a vital role in dispensation of justice.

He said like other institutions, the Election Commission of Pakistan was also functioning in accordance with the Constitution and hoped that the respect and dignity of every institution would be upheld. (With inputs from ANI)
