Telecom service provider Mahanagar Telepone Nigam Limited (MTNL) has LMTSmade announcement about the launching of its Lost Mobile Tracking System (LMTS), which will locate stolen mobile phones.

The Executive Director, MTNL, J Gopal, inaugurated the system.

Mumbai-based Micro Technologies developed the new software, which can be downloaded and installed for free by the user.

One of the representative of Micro- Technologies said, “The software can be downloaded for free from MTNL through GPRS and can be installed on almost 250 models of mobile phones.”

The software that backs up GSM technology, stores the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) number of the phone, plus the SIM (subscriber identity module) card number, which is being used by the customer. After installation the user has to provide an alternate phone number and email address where the alert can be sent, if the mobile is stolen.

In case of theft, the software sends an SMS and e-mail to the customer if the SIM existing card is replaced with another and the IMEI number together with the existing location of the phone.

Executive Director of MTNL J Gopal said, “We expect to provide the service in the next month. The required software will be provided by us and will allow users to watch live video on their phones.”

MTNL is offering this brilliant service on a monthly subscription basis of Rs 30 per month.
