More 50-plus women giving birth
A large chunk of the women in their 50s are now giving birth these days and as more and more in vitro fertilisation (IVF) clinics relax rules on treating older patients. In a research done in England, it has been found that close to 100 women have given birth over the past one year who was in their 50s.
It is to be mentioned here that the data files a rise of 55% over the data of 2008.
The data from the Office for National Statistics revealed the same saying that the trend has been catching pace in the past 12 months. The experts are of a view that the number is only going to get bigger from here. For the record, close to 140,000 babies were born to women aged 35 or older in the year 2009.
Experts have also opined the fact that most of the new 50-plus mothers will have used donor eggs or embryos which would have been donated by the younger women that would have helped them conceive.
However, a different study also said that women who are stressed during IVF treatment may have a better chance of pregnancy.
