Modi Hails SC Decision For Deferring RCA Polls

Modi Hails SC Decision For Deferring RCA Polls In a major relief to IPL chairman Lalit Modi, the Supreme Court had ordered that the Rajasthan Cricket Association (RCA) elections, which were originally scheduled for February 22, be held on March 1.

A Bench comprising Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justice P Sathasivam said Justice N. M. Kasliwal would act as an observer.

The court made it clear that the elections would be held as per the old unamended constitution of the association of February 11, 2005.

Fresh nominations would be allowed for three more days. Earlier, polling had been scheduled for February 22.

Modi had sought the apex court's intervention to ensure a free and fair election.

In his application, Modi had alleged that the secretary Subhash Joshi had announced for the date of the elections for executive committee of RCA without taking members into confidence, which is arbitrary.

Senior counsel A Sundram, appearing for the Rajasthan government, said the elections could not be postponed as the four-year term of the present office bearers would end on February 21.

Modi moved the apex court only on February 16, while the poll scheduled was announced on January 30.

Meanwhile, an elated Modi hailed the Apex’s court decision and said, “My stand gets vindicated. All the illegalities done by the other group by changing the constitution have been set aside by the Supreme Court. I'm extremely happy."
