M&M may freeze its JV with Renault

M&M may freeze its JV with RenaultAfter tasting rough waters with its French JV partner Renault in the Indian market, M&M may opt for freezing its investment in the JV going forward. Notably, the duo hasn't been able to do anything substantial with its product Logan in the Indian passenger car market.

The no-frills sedan mainly failed to make an appropriate space for itself as its length of 4 metres incurs a factory gate duty of 20 %, making it expensive for its target segment.

In fact, the recent reports claim that the home-grown auto major may eventually see ceding of its 51% market share in the JV. While the JV has been in talks for all the wrong reasons for quite a long time now, the companies have not been able to come out with anything concrete so far.

Sources confirm that there are even possibilities of Renault using the 50,000 installed capacity base at the Nashik plant under the restructuring process of the JV. The duo is expected to make an announcement in the first week of April regarding the future of the JV in the Indian market.
