Mistrial For Britney’s ‘Trafficgate’
Jurors' failure to reach a verdict after 8-hours of deliberations, left the Judge in Britney Spears’ trial for driving without a valid California licence, no option but to declare it a mistrial.
The charge relating to the 26-year-old pop star, photographed hitting a parked car and leaving the scene, did not indicate that Spears would face a retrial. Barely two hours after their second day of deliberations, the Jury Foreman informed Judge Steele that no unanimous verdict could be reached. What the jury couldn’t understand was why Britney was pulled over in the first place and whether she was driving without a valid license or simply without a California license. Questions that the jury was supposed to decide for the Judge!
Declaring the jury hung, Judge Steele dismissed the case after being assured the state would not seek retrial. Tough, as it means that even after funding the costs, taxpayers won’t get to see Britney Spears picking trash along the Freeway, wearing orange overalls!
