Amsterdam - A body found in Britain is probably that of missing former ABN Amro banker Huibert Boumeester, his family in the Netherlands confirmed in a statement Monday.

The father-of-three, who disappeared several days ago, "has probably been found dead" his relatives said in statement released to the Dutch press agency ANP.

Formal identification is still pending a police investigation, it added.

On Sunday, British newspaper Daily Mail reported Boumeester had been found dead after having shot himself through the head with his own gun.

Boumeester, 49, was ABN Amro's former Chief Financial Officer and member of the Dutch bank's managing board.

In February, Boumeester resigned from the board of Artemis Asset Management Ltd, a former ABN Amro unit now owned by Paris-based BNP Paribas.

Boumeester, who had worked for the Dutch bank since 1987, left ABN Amro in March 2008, just after ABN Amro's takeover by a banking consortium led by Royal Bank of Scotland.

Boumeester did not support the consortium's takeover, preferring a merger with Britain's Barclays Bank.

Had Barclays' bid for ABN Amro been successful, then Boumeester would probably have been the only ABN Amro manager to become an executive director of the combined group.(dpa)
