Microsoft's total Surface revenue amounted to just $853mSoftware giant, Microsoft has reported the revenues for its Surface tablet computer for the first time and shows that the company is not being able to attract significant number of customers in the market.

The company wrote in the annual 10-K report to the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), which was published on Tuesday that, total Surface revenue for all of fiscal 2013 amounted to just $853 million. The annual 10-K SEC filing includes all the three quarters when the tablet computer was available in the market and shows that the company has not been able to succeed in the competitive tablet market.

The company had taken a write-down of $900 million on the tablet when it discounted its remaining Surface RT inventory by $150 per box. Microsoft has cut the price of its Surface RT tablets by $150 following a major restructuring at the company, in a move to revive sales of the tablet com[puter inte h highly competitive market.

The Surface RT is a light version of the company's tablet and runs on a limited version of Windows 8 operating system. The price of a 32GB tablet has been reduced from $499 to $349; the 64 GB model will not cost $599 compared to $449. The 32 GB model with a keyboard will be priced at $449 compared to $599 and the price of 64 GB model with a keyboard has been reduced from $699 to $549 in the US market.
