Microsoft Unveils SME Solution To Check Piracy

Microsoft_Software_Assurance_ProgramNew Delhi: Microsoft Corporation India’s recently unveiled Get Genuine Solution (GGS) will help enabling small & medium enterprises SMEs to legalize their counterfeit or unlicensed Windows XP Professional PCs.

Validated for a limited time in India, China, Brazil and Russia, the scheme aims at countering revenue loss due to piracy. GGS will give customers the option of enrolling into Microsoft’s Software Assurance (SA) program that will let them have the choice of an easy upgrade path to the ‘Microsoft’s next generation desktop operating system’ – Windows Vista, which the company claims is witnessing wide scale enterprise deployment in India.

The customers opting for this scheme will be providing their name and address to the reseller, and they will be sent the Certificate of Authentication (COA) and other license materials by them.

The BSA-IDC Global Software Piracy Study has revealed that India lost $1,250 million in 2006 to software piracy – up from $367 million in 2003.
